How much oil to 1 liter of gasoline for your chain saw?
For this model you need 92 gasoline and special oil for air-cooled two-stroke engines. Prepare the mixture in the ratio of oil and gasoline. 1:40. In other words, observe the ratio per 1 liter of gasoline. 25 grams of oil.
Each trimmer manual gives proportions on how to dilute the fuel mixture. Usually it is 1:25. 1:40 or 1:50. In practice, it looks like this:
- 1:25. 40 milliliters of oil per 1 liter of gasoline;
- 1:40. 25 milliliters of oil per liter of gasoline;
- 1: 50. 20 milliliters of oil per liter of gasoline.
How to fuel a chainsaw
How to properly fuel a chainsaw so that it works for you for a long time and does not cause repair problems. This question often interests those who have recently bought a chainsaw and had no previous experience in making fuel mixture. Usually the instructions for a particular chain saw have instructions from the manufacturer. On the basis of recommendations of different producers we have made a small instruction.
In order to dilute oil with gasoline for a chainsaw you need to use only high quality components. Gasoline should be 92 or 95 octane and without ethyl or other additives. Gasoline should be fresh and has not lost its properties over time.
Some 99% of chainsaws are built with two-stroke engines, so it needs to be a 2T oil. The best is considered to be synthetic oil from well-known producers. Some petrol tool manufacturers produce their own oil for their machines. For example Sturm, Spektr and others. Never economize on oil in terms of quality. over, it does not consume much. And now about consumption.
How to dilute the gasoline with chainsaw oil in the right proportion. General proportions for all gasoline chainsaws are from 20 ml to 50 ml of oil per liter of gasoline (depending on the manufacturer) For most household chainsaws dilute oil with gasoline at the rate of 25 ml per liter of gasoline. For exact fuel mixture proportions, however, consult the recommendations for your particular saw. What happens if you use less oil? Deteriorates engine lubrication and accelerates engine failure. If there is more oil, the chainsaw will smoke and there will be soot on the piston and plug.
How to measure the oil? When you buy a chainsaw, it usually comes with a plastic measuring jug with graduations. It is usually not very accurate and the measured risks are not to be trusted. Many people use a medical syringe to accurately dose oil and it’s not a bad option. First pour gasoline into a canister or glass jar, and then add oil to it for better mixing. Mix well and thoroughly. Prepare the mixture based on its capacity for 10 days. After 10 days the fuel mixture that is not consumed will lose its qualities and ruin your tool when you use it. After using your chainsaw, be sure to drain the remaining gasoline from the tank into a mixing container until the next time. Remember to keep the fuel mixture tightly sealed and stored away from sources of fire and heat.
After you have finished work and have drained gasoline from tank and are not going to use the tool in the near future, it is necessary to start up the chainsaw again and let it work until it will not stall. To keep the carburetor dry during storage.
Remember that most chainsaw engine failures are caused by improperly mixed or improperly made fuel and lubricants. chainsaw engine repair or replacement is sometimes the price of almost a new tool, and warranty repair for a breakdown as a consequence is not covered. Service centers will unmistakably determine the cause of engine deterioration. Therefore, take seriously the preparation and selection of quality fuel mixture for your tool.
Step by step instructions for refueling
To prepare the fuel mixture and refuel your chainsaw, you will need:
- measuring cup;
- pure gasoline with an octane rating of 92;
- A special oil for air-cooled two-stroke engines;
- ready-mix container;
To measure the volume, you can use a container that usually comes with gasoline tools. You can also buy special branded canisters with sections and measuring tools.
- Prepare a container for the ready-to-use fuel mixture. The oil volume should be big enough for both the gasoline and the oil.
- Calculate the lubricant to gasoline ratio based on the owner’s manual and using one of the methods above.
- Measure and pour the required volume of gasoline into the container.
- Measure and add the required volume of oil to the gasoline using the measuring cup, standard bottle, or syringe.
- The reservoir for the ready mixture should not be filled to overflowing.
- Close the container securely with a lid, and turn it upside down several times to mix the oil and the gasoline.
- Fill your mix into the fuel tank of your chainsaw.
Contrary to what people think, it makes no difference whether you pour petrol or oil into the mixer bucket first. The main thing is not to forget to mix thoroughly. What you really shouldn’t do is prepare the fuel mixture directly into the chainsaw‘s fuel tank.
Can you put 95 gasoline in your chainsaw??
Nearly 75% of chain saw producers indicate in the gasoline certificate that it is necessary to use AI-92 gasoline. Those owners of such equipment, who encounter it for the first time and do not know what kind of gasoline is needed for a chainsaw, draw parallels with car engines and conclude that the higher the octane number, the better. As a result, not understanding how to properly dilute gasoline for a chainsaw, dilute oil and gasoline AI-95.
The thing is that increasing the octane number is achieved by mixing different additives in gasoline, as it is done for AI-95 and AI-98 gasoline. Additives are harmful to two-stroke engines because of their peculiar design, and therefore it is necessary to use AI-92 gasoline, especially in our country. Firstly, it is correct and prolongs life of engine, and secondly, it is cheaper. But some manufacturers, like STIHL, can also use AI-95, but you should buy it at a well-tested gas station.
Cooking the fuel mix: proportion of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw
The chainsaw engine is the “heart” of the tool, so it is very important to use a properly mixed fuel.
The fuel mix for a chainsaw is made up of two components. oil and gasoline. Chainsaws are equipped with two-stroke engines, so oil is not added to the lubrication system (as in a four-stroke engine), but directly to the gasoline. It is very important to observe the correct proportions of ingredients and, of course, in no case try to work on pure gasoline, because that way you will very quickly “kill” the chainsaw.
The oil must necessarily be intended for two-stroke engines of gardening and forestry equipment (that is, in no case can you use oil for boat motors or scooters). As practice shows, such oil can be bought in any store or service center, where chainsaws are sold or serviced.
If we talk about what gasoline to fill a chainsaw, it will be optimal to use fuel with the octane number of A-95, in this case, the savings on fuel can turn out badly. European manufacturers often indicate that you can use gasoline A-90 or A-92, but in post-Soviet countries, the quality of gasoline inferior to the European, so in our reality it is better to use a higher-quality gasoline.
As for the very proportion of gasoline-oil mixture, then everything is simple: you must clearly follow the instructions of the tool. All chainsaw manufacturers indicate the required ratio in the instruction manual or in the tool’s certificate, moreover, the proportions for filling the chainsaw may differ depending on the model of chain saw. As a rule, the ratio of oil to gasoline in a well-known chain saw is 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part oil to, say, 40 parts gasoline.
Now let’s make arithmetic: 1 liter of petrol = 1000 ml of petrol, divide by 40 and you have 25 ml of oil. If you perform the same actions for 1:50 ratio, you get 20 ml of oil for 1 liter of gasoline.
As for budget Chinese-made chainsaws, the situation is a little different. Ratio of gasoline to oil for chainsaw made in China 1:25, that is 1000 ml of petrol divided by 25, you get 40 ml of oil. The thing is that in branded chainsaws good assembly and distance between the pistons and cylinders in the engine is much smaller than in Chinese chainsaws, so the required amount of oil differs by almost a factor of two.
To measure out the right oil, use an ordinary medicine syringe of sufficient volume.
One more thing to note. fill the dry gasoline canister with gasoline first, then with oil. The procedure on the contrary is fraught with low quality fuel mixture, because the oil is denser, will stick to the bottom of the canister. That’s why there’s no way to talk about good blending.
Always prepare the fuel mixture in a canister and fill the gas tank with already prepared special fuel! Never prepare and mix it directly in the chainsaw‘s fuel tank!
If the question of how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw is solved, then and On the conditions of storage and shelf life of the fuel mixture it is worth saying a few words. The best and easiest way to prepare a benzomaslenny mix for 1 liter of gasoline, it is recommended to do it just before working with the tool. Gasoline tanks in chainsaws have a capacity of 0.3 to 1 liter. In the conditions of domestic use for one session the whole volume of the prepared combustible mixture is seldom used, therefore the remainder can be saved until the next session. The fuel mixture should be stored in a special canister for gasoline, in a dark dry place. It is optimal to calculate that storage time of the ready mixture is 7-10 days
The fact that the oil on the market now is not synthetic, but organic, that is natural. after 10 days all lubricating properties are lost, gasoline simply “eats” the oil. Naturally, it is no longer possible to use such fuel, it can cause breakdown and failure of the chainsaw.
At the end of work, you need to drain the fuel mixture and start the chainsaw. the tool will stall (so that the saw has a dry carburetor) and now you can leave it until the next session of operation.
How much oil to add to gasoline for a chainsaw
Dacha season is about to begin. Get your equipment ready for the season.
Properly mixed, will ensure the smooth operation of the engine, complete combustion of fuel without the formation of soot, smoke or scuffing.
For the mix you need to use 92 gasoline and two-stroke oil (synthetic).
Fuels below 92 octane are not compatible. We do not recommend the 95th, because it is not recommended.к. It contains many different additives that can adversely affect the performance of your gasoline equipment.
Knead the mixture before each use. Do not mix too much.
Chainsaw Basics: Fuel and Oil
The oil-fuel mixture must not be stored for more than 2 weeks as this leads to irreversible processes of oxidation and changes in the mixture.
that is, per liter of gasoline. 20 milliliters of oil.
(Or 100 ml of oil for 5 liters of petrol).
A full tank at full load lasts 30 to 45 minutes, if you do not plan to use the technique that long, do not fill a full tank.
Do not use old gasoline, it wears out over time and changes the octane rating.
Never fill up a gasoline tool with a 2-stroke engine with pure gasoline, it threatens you with a serious and expensive repair.
You can only refuel with a gasoline-oil mixture.
Why the wrong oil ratio can wreck your machine?
The thing is that unlike 4-stroke engines, 2-stroke engines do not have an external lubrication system of the internal parts of the engine, a properly prepared fuel mixture is very important for them. Adding too little oil reduces the lubricating power of the mixture, it will soon wear out the machine. Conversely, if you add too much oil. it’ll ruin the combustion properties of the mixture and it’ll severely reduce the horsepower of the machine.
A two-stroke engine does not have a separate oil sump and all working parts inside the engine are lubricated by oil. that is in the fuel mixture.
The oil should lubricate all the cranking parts inside the engine and should burn without producing soot. This is the fundamental difference between oils for 2-stroke engines and 4-stroke engines.
In addition to the above functions, oil should:
- seal the gaps, first of all, between the parts of the cylinder-piston group, prevent and minimize gas bursts from the combustion chamber.
- Divert heat generated by fuel combustion and friction.
- prevent corrosion of engine parts.
Mix the ingredients in a gasoline-proof container, not in the tank itself! Pour petrol into a clean and dry canister and then add oil.
In reverse order, you do not need t.к. the oil poured in first will stick to the bottom and is hard to mix later, you will have to make more effort. After adding both ingredients, close the container tightly, and shake thoroughly, actively mixing the components.
How to Mix (Dilute) Gasoline and Oil for 2T Engines.
To summarize the above. Use for your brand equipment an oil designed or recommended by the manufacturer of that equipment. For example, for the STIHL FS 55 brushcutter, STIHL HP oil (ref. Figure 1a) or STIHL HP SUPER, for the Husqvarna 128R brushcutter use Husqvarna HP oil (Figure 1b) or Husqvarna LS oil. For 2.Do not use 4-stroke engine oils. For example 10W30, SAE 30 etc.д.
Figure 1 a-Husqvarna oil (left), STIHL oil (right)
Never use 2-stroke oil intended for water-cooled engines, because these oils are designed to operate at lower temperatures.
The proportions of oil and gasoline in the fuel mix specified in the instruction manual of the engine manufacturer must be observed. Chinese manufacturers most often specify a ratio of 1 part oil to 25 parts gasoline, with STIHL and Husqvarna this ratio is 1/ 50.When preparing a small volume of mixture (up to 1 liter), it is very important to carefully measure the amount of oil in the mixture. Even small miscalculations in the amount of oil can lead to serious inconsistencies in the mix. In these cases, a medical syringe can be used for accurate dispensing.The fuel mixture must be prepared in a clean container designed for this purpose. (See. Fig. 2)
I do not recommend the use of improvised plastic bottles and canisters, because gasoline can dissolve plastics and all this “slurry” gets into the fuel tank and causes failure of the carburetor.
Plastic canisters designed for gasoline are always marked with a “flame” sign. It is very convenient to use a canister equipped with a spill-free filling system (see Fig. 3). The no-fill system has a valve that prevents fuel from spilling into the tank (see Figure 3). The no-fill system has a valve that prevents fuel from spilling when the tank is full.

Running-in features for the new tool
This includes gentle operation of the chainsaw at the beginning of its operation. The technology also provides for the work of the engine on a mixture with 20% more motor oil.
Please refer to the manual for the operating hours as included. In practice it is enough to fill up the gas tank of your chainsaw 3-5 times for the tool to reach the working level.
New models do not need a sharpening cycle, but it is not recommended to use the chain saw for the first few hours under hard working conditions.
