How much oil to add to your petrol for your grass trimmer?

As a rule, the ratio of oil to gasoline in a chain saw from reputable manufacturers is 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part oil to, say, 40 parts gasoline.31 Aug.

In the instructions, attached to the product, it is written in what ratio to mix oil with gasoline. For the STIHL FS 250 trimmer, for example, this ratio is 1:50, which means that you need 100 grams of oil for five liters of gasoline (5000 : 50 = 100). Here. 1:50, that is 1 liter of oil for 50 liters of gasoline.

Oil to gas ratio in the Ryobi SS30 trimmer | Home Guides

Two-stroke or two-stroke engines require preliminary mixing of oil and fuel to lubricate the piston. Without lubrication, the engine will seize up. A stuck engine is beyond repair and creates a bad work day. To prevent a costly mistake, always mix the specified 50:1 ratio of gasoline to oil for the Ryobi SS30 Grass Trimmer. It will make for a quiet work day in the yard.

You can get a 50: 1 fuel ratio by mixing one gallon of unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of at least 87 with 2.6 ounces of two-stroke oil in a container approved for storing gasoline. Pour the oil into the container first; then add the gasoline. Swirl the container gently until the products are thoroughly mixed. Do not shake the container too vigorously. This can cause air bubbles to form. Make as much fuel as you can use in 30 days. If one gallon is too much, cut the recipe in half.

Use fresh, unleaded gasoline when mixing grass trimmer fuel. Gasoline older than 30 days forms a film and clogs the carburetor.Unlubricated gas. One of the most common causes of start-up problems with trimmers. Fuel containing ethanol left in a trimmer or gas cylinder for more than 30 days will absorb moisture and not burn properly. You can extend the life of gasoline up to six months by adding a fuel stabilizer to it when you buy it.

Two-stroke oil

Use only two-stroke oil designed for oil-cooled engines in your weed trimmer. Avoid using SAE-weighted automotive oil or two-stroke marine engine oil.You can use synthetic oil for two-stroke engines in your trimmer. Properly lubricated new engines smoke at first, as do engines with too much oil in the fuel mixture. If your machine is past the break-in period and you notice smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe, there is most likely too much oil in the fuel mixture. Turn off the grass trimmer, drain the fuel, and replace it with properly mixed fuel.

Storing the grass trimmer for 30 days or more without fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank makes it vulnerable to internal engine damage. If the fuel is left for a long period of time, it separates. A two-stroke engine needs fuel that is thoroughly mixed so that when it passes through the engine, it has enough oil to lubricate. Stratified fuel can allow pure gasoline to pass through the engine, alternating with parts of nearly pure oil, causing damage to the engine. To prevent this, drain the fuel from the unit before storage and let the unit run to a complete stop. This signals that all the fuel is used up. The unit is then ready for safe storage.

Classification of Motor Oils:

Required parameters of oils for 2T engines are prescribed in API TC JASO FC, API TC JASO FC ISO GD and API TC JASO FC E-GC. The most widespread are the API classification systems. As a result, 2T motor oils are divided into four major groups:

TA. Suitable for household appliances with air cooling system and engine size not more than 50 cm3.

TB. used for heavy-duty equipment with air-cooled refrigeration system and engine size 50. 200 cm3.

It is forbidden to use oil for 2T engines with a rare cooling system. Also not recommended for heavy-duty truck engines, motorcycles or other equipment.

Oil to petrol ratio for fuel mixture

For a chainsaw’s two-stroke engine to work at its optimum efficiency, oil and gasoline must be mixed in certain proportions. You will find these quantities both in the tool kits and on the lubricant packets. Let’s consider briefly what will happen if the recommended ratios are not observed or violated by mistake (ignorance).

If you add too little oil to petrol, its concentration will be insufficient for effective lubrication of friction parts. The engine will make a ringing sound, heat up excessively, and will fail quickly. Too much oil is also bad, as excessive oil can not be fully combusted. This will cause fouling of the cylinder and piston walls, contamination of the spark plugs, the exhaust system. There will also be a drop in power, an increase in fuel consumption, and excessive smokiness of the exhaust during operation.

To avoid these problems, oil and gasoline must be mixed in the proportions recommended by the manufacturer. They are indicated as ratios. 1:50, 1:40, 1:25, and so on. Either of these proportions tells you how much oil to pour per volume of fuel. For example, to prepare a mixture in the proportion 1:25 you need 1 liter of oil for 25 liters of gasoline.

It is important not to mix up! Quite often the indicated proportions are perceived by users in the opposite way. For example, 1:50 is understood to mean 50 milliliters of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. It is a gross mistake that will lead to higher oil concentration in the fuel. In fact at this ratio you need only 20 milliliters of oil for 1 liter of oil.

much, your, weed, trimmer

How not to get mixed up in proportions? There are very few people who need to prepare 50 or even 25 liters of fuel mixture for a chainsaw. over, it is not possible to store gasoline mixed with oil for a long time. Usually prepare as much as you need for a day or two. And if you take into account the small consumption of the chainsaw, it’s 1-5 liters.

There are three ways to properly dilute gasoline for a chain saw in small volumes:

  • Divide 1000 by the second digit in the proportion. For example, we need to prepare a mixture in a ratio of 1:40. Divide 1000 by 40 and you get 25. This is how many milliliters of oil you put in 1 liter of gasoline.
  • Solve the proportion like you did at school. To do this, the required volume of gasoline in liters divided by the second digit in the proportion. As a result, we get the necessary amount of oil in liters. Let’s convert from liters to milliliters for your convenience. let’s say you need 3 liters of mixture in proportion of 1:50. We solve: 3/50=0.06 liters. To turn liters into milliliters, move the comma three digits to the right, and you get 60 milliliters.
  • See table. This is the easiest, fastest and most obvious way if the proportions are standard. The other two methods are needed to understand why you should pour 20 ml of oil per liter of gasoline and not 50 ml.

Now briefly about why the proportions differ from manufacturer to manufacturer and there is no single standard. There are at least three reasons for this. First, the different characteristics of oils and gasoline. Secondly, the quality of engine assembly (technology, materials) is also different. Third, the mode of operation of the tool. For example, some manufacturers recommend adding 20% more oil in the mix to run-in chainsaws.

It is recommended to buy unleaded gasoline for the gardening equipment. Otherwise there is a risk of engine failure. Manufacturers advise to use fuel with an octane number not lower than AI-90, better AI-92 or AI-95. For individual recommendations for your tool, see the instruction manual. At the gas station fill up the canister with the correct amount of fuel. It is desirable to take a metal: in such a container does not arise static electricity from friction, which increases the safety of use.

Always buy brand name 2-stroke oils, preferably API-TB or API-TC. The manufacturer should indicate the recommended brands in the instructions for the tool. Also note their composition. Mineral oils are suitable for use in warm weather. Synthetic is better, they are less viscous and can be used even in freezing temperatures. Semi-synthetics are mineral, with improved qualities, versatile for any season. Check the temperature rating on the packaging. Also look at the volume. What matters is not the proportion of gasoline and chainsaw oil, but how much fuel mixture you will need for one filling and how often you will be working with the tool. If in your arsenal in addition to the saw more trimmer for grass or gasoline shears and you use a tool several times a week, it makes sense to buy a large canister of oil in the volume of 3. 5 liters. For several mowing operations during the gardening season, a 1 liter bottle is enough.

Mixing oil with gasoline

When you start working with a tool, the question always arises how much oil to add to gasoline for a chainsaw or grass trimmer. It is important to remember that for two-stroke engines the ratio is 1:50, t.е. There is 100 ml of oil for every 5 litres of fuel. Why it’s important to keep the proportions? Excess oil contributes to soot formation on pistons and spark plugs, and its deficiency worsens the lubricating properties of the fuel mixture, which leads to scuffing of the piston group and increases the risk of engine failure.

It’s easiest to keep the gasoline and oil proportions for a chainsaw by using measuring containers. They have a scale with marks on them, which is easy to follow. Before filling up with petrol and oil, make sure the container is clean. Avoid getting water and dirt inside. this can affect the quality of the fuel mixture. First fill petrol to the proper level, then add oil to the proper level. Tilt the pail several times to mix them. Liquids will quickly mix and the composition will acquire a homogeneous color, e.g. green or red (depending on the oil composition).

Good to know! Do not use plastic drink bottles for storing and mixing the fuel mixture under any circumstances. Gasoline corrodes plastics. And even if the walls of the bottle seem to be intact, harmful components will get into the fuel mixture, and with it into the engine. It is very bad for the carburetor.

Wearing gloves is recommended to protect your hands from the gasoline and oil. Also do not forget about the elementary rules of fire safety. Mix outdoors so gasoline fumes do not build up indoors. Do not smoke when working and avoid other factors that could cause an ignition of fuel and lubricants.

pour the fuel mixture into the tank and close the cap tightly. If you make more mix than you can use at one time, drain it into a separate storage canister or leave it in the mixing tank. Just make sure you close the lid tightly. The ready-mixed mixture can be stored for up to two weeks and used for refueling without risk to the engine. the only condition is that you do not leave it in the tank. If you won’t use the tool for a long time. use up the leftovers completely or pour them out.

Now you know how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw so as not to harm the engine. Try to do this yourself. After you prepare the fuel mixture a few times, you will know how much of the ingredients are needed so you do not have any extra mixture. You can buy everything you need in our online store. With brand name oils your tool will last a long time.

The rules of mixing

And now about how to mix components correctly. However, it would be more logical to start with analysis of widespread, but totally unacceptable mistakes made by many mower owners. The following mistakes are considered to be the mistakes of fuel mixing.

  • Adding oil to the fuel already in the brushcutter’s fuel tank. It is not possible to obtain a homogeneous fuel mixture in this way. It may be possible, if only then shake the grass trimmer for a long time. But it is unlikely that someone will do it, given the gravity of the machine.
  • First pour oil into the mixing tank, and then add gasoline. Gasoline has a lower density than oil, so if you add it to the oil, it will remain in the upper layer, which means there will be no natural mixing. Of course, you can mix it afterwards, but it will take a lot more energy than if you do it the other way around. pouring oil to the poured gasoline.
  • Ignoring precise measuring tools to take the necessary volumes of ingredients to use. In other words, diluting the amount of oil or gasoline “by eye” is a bad habit when operating motor vehicles.
  • Taking empty drinking water bottles for fuel mixture preparation. Such containers are made of too thin polyethylene, which may be dissolved by gasoline.

Considering all of the above, we recommend using the following rules when mixing the fuel mixture for the two-stroke engines of the grass trimmer.

  • Do not use containers made of metal or special plastic for storing or preparing gasoline, oil or mixed fuel.
  • To avoid spilling gasoline in a dilution tank using a watering can, and to add oil use a measuring cup with volume indicators or a 5 ml and 10 ml medical syringe.
  • First add gasoline to the fuel mixer can, then oil to the fuel mixer can.
  • To dilute the mixture, first pour only half of the planned volume of gasoline into the tank.
  • Next, add the full amount of oil required for the mixture to the gasoline.
  • Thoroughly mix the contents of the dilution tank. It is best to stir by making circular motions with a tightly closed container. Do not use any other object to stir the fuel inside the canister, because nobody knows what kind of material it is made of, what kind of reaction it may have with the ingredients of the mixture and how clean it is.
  • add the rest of the gasoline to the mixed mixture and stir it thoroughly again.
  • The lawnmower’s fuel tank can be filled with the mixture prepared.

You need to keep in mind that the prepared fuel mixture should not be stored for more than 14 days, because it loses its properties, stratifies and evaporates, which leads to changes in the proportions, and thus deteriorates the performance of the grass trimmer.

How to mix (thin) gasoline and oil for 2m engines.

To summarize the above. Use brand name engine oil designed by or recommended by the engine manufacturer for your model. For example, for the STIHL FS 55 brushcutter use STIHL HP oil (see Figure 1b). Figure 1a) or STIHL HP SUPER, for the Husqvarna 128R brushcutter use Husqvarna HP oil (Figure 1b) or Husqvarna LS oil. For 2.Do not use 4-stroke engine oils. e.g. 10W30, SAE 30, etc.д.

Figure 1 a-Husqvarna oil (left), STIHL oil (right)

Useful hint

Never use 2-stroke oil intended for water cooled engines, as these oils are designed to operate at lower temperatures.

Observe the proportions of oil and gasoline for the fuel mixture specified by the manufacturer in the owner’s manual. Chinese manufacturers most often give a ratio of 1 part oil to 25 parts gasoline, and STIHL and Husqvarna give 1/50 part oil to 25 parts gasoline. When preparing a small volume of mixture (up to 1 liter), it is very important to carefully measure the amount of oil in the mixture. Even small errors in the amount of oil can cause serious inconsistencies in the mixture. In such cases, a syringe can be used to precisely dispense the oil.The fuel mixture must be prepared in a clean container designed specifically for this purpose. (refer to “Notes on Use of Fuel Mixture” in the User Manual). figure 2)

Useful tip

I do not recommend to use improvised plastic bottles and canisters, because gasoline can dissolve plastics and all this “slurry” gets into the fuel tank and causes failure of the carburetor.

Plastic canisters designed for petrol are always marked with the “flame” sign. It is very convenient to use a canister with a spill-free system (see Fig. 3). figure 3). The no-fill system has a valve that prevents fuel from spilling when the tank is full.

How much oil to dilute in your grass trimmer

The gardening season is about to begin. Get your equipment ready for the season.

A properly mixed oil will ensure smooth engine operation, complete fuel combustion without formation of soot, smoke or scuffing.

It is necessary to use 92 gasoline and oil for two-stroke engines (synthetic).

Gasoline below 92, with a lower octane number is not suitable. We don’t recommend the 95th, t.к. it contains many different additives that can adversely affect the operation of gasoline equipment.

much, your, weed, trimmer

Mix the mix before every use. Do not use too much.

Oil-fuel mixture must not be stored for more than 2 weeks, then irreversible processes of oxidation and changes in the mixture composition take place.

That is, per liter of gasoline. 20 milliliters of oil.

(or this mixing ratio: 100 ml of oil for 5 liters of petrol).

A full tank at full load lasts from 30 to 45 minutes, if you do not plan to use the technique so long, do not fill a full tank.

Do not use old gasoline, it wears out with time and changes the octane number.

Never fill a power tool with pure gasoline with a 2-stroke engine. this could result in serious and costly repairs.

You can only refuel with a petrol-oil mix.

Why the wrong proportions can put the equipment out of order?

The point is that unlike 4-stroke engines, 2-stroke engines do not have an external lubrication system for the internal parts of the engine, a properly prepared fuel mixture is very important for them. If you add too little oil, the lubrication properties of the mixture will decrease, leading to rapid wear of the equipment. Conversely, if you add too much oil. it ruins the combustible properties of the mixture and greatly reduces the power of the machine.

The 2-stroke engine has no separate oil sump and all of the working parts inside the engine are lubricated by oil. which is contained in the fuel mixture.

The oil should lubricate all rubbing surfaces inside the engine and burn without formation of deposits. This is the fundamental difference between oils for 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.

In addition to the above functions, the oil should:

  • Seal the gaps, first of all, between the parts of the cylinder-piston group, prevent and minimize the outflow of gases from the combustion chamber.
  • Divert heat generated by fuel combustion and friction.
  • prevent corrosion of engine parts.

Mix the ingredients in a gasoline-resistant container, not in the tank itself! Pour petrol into a clean and dry canister then add oil there.

There is no need to t in reverse order.к. the oil pouring in first will stick to the bottom and is hard to mix then, it needs more effort. After adding both ingredients, close the container tightly, and shake thoroughly, actively mixing the components.
