What and how to cut aluminum profiles
Plasma cutting aluminum is the ideal way to get a high quality cut on nonferrous metals. Only inactive gases are used to produce the plasma needed to cut aluminum and its alloy sheets: hydrogen, argon, or nitrogen.
Active gases, such as air and oxygen, are designed to form plasma for cutting ferrous metal.
It is not recommended to use a gas mixture combining nitrogen and argon for plasma aluminum cutting because it is designed for cutting 50 mm high-alloy steel.
The use of pure nitrogen gas is possible for cutting aluminum with a thickness of up to 20 mm.
But nitrogen in combination with hydrogen allows to cut aluminum and its different alloys with a thickness of 100 mm.
Ways to cut a platband at 45 degrees without using a wire cutter
The easiest way is to use an ordinary protractor, which is in every home where there is a school-age child. It is not so difficult to make a marking with it.
Important: The cut is also important. To avoid cracks, it is best to use a hacksaw for metal instead of wood. Yes, this method requires more time, but the cut will be much more accurate and even.
When the marking using protractor is made, you need to put a platband on a horizontal surface so that the front side was at the top. It is recommended to make a cut on the whole plane of the casing.
If you do not have any stationery nearby, you can use an ordinary tile, with which you can draw a 90-degree angle. Dividing it into two halves, we get a template for a 45-degree angle, which can be used for marking instead of the chisel.
If you have a ruler. the task becomes several times easier. You just need to take a sheet of A4 and draw a square, and then bisect the corners. To make it more convenient, you can take a small plank and attach it to one of the corners, which will fix the construction. And then you need to put the casing and start sawing.
How to attach plastic corners?
First, note that before the direct installation of plastic corners on the windows it is necessary to wallpaper, paint, etc. That is, you can proceed to their fixing only after all the work on the finishing.
You will need the following tools to install a plastic corner:
- installation glue (liquid nails)
- masking tape (adhesive tape), and in a room with high humidity. silicone sealant
- metal scissors or a hacksaw
- corners made of PVC
Finishing of windows with plastic corners consists of several stages. Consider each of them:
Depending on where it is used, the plastic corners may be tangent, with L or F. shaped section, unequal, T-shaped profiles. Angle L.shaped profile is the most commonly used compared to the others. Basically, it is masking the gaps in the joints of materials, edging sheet materials, the corner connection of trim.
As a rule, the angle between the shelves of the angle is 90 degrees, and they have sizes: 1010, 1515, 2020, 2525, 3030, 4040, 5050 millimeters. Such corners are most often used for window and door jambs. If the angle is installed in a place with significant influence of environmental factors, it is better to use the angle with the size of 20 mm. or higher. Smaller corners 1010 and 1515 are usually used for interior decoration, they blend seamlessly into the overall design.
Plastic corners with unequal section are used for finishing arches. The sizes of these nooks are 517, 1020, 1525 mm. Angle with such section is easier to fasten, they are flexible enough and easily maintain the required position, creates a smooth line for the trimmer of the bend and an even edge. On one side of such corners there is a section, allowing to do a line for a trimmer of necessary degree.
PVC corners differ, depending on the type of finishing work. They can also be used externally and internally. External corners have an angle of 90 and 105 degrees. When using the corner, with an angle of 90 degrees, for a window, one slat remains in sight, the other is inserted into the gap window frame. Angle, which has an angle of 105 degrees, is mounted with two shelves outward.
Self-adhesive plastic corners are especially popular. They are quite versatile, t.к. there is no need to buy glue. They also have an increased ability to bend and unbend, providing easy installation and a perfect look. Another feature: these corners are sold in rolls, the length in a roll is 50 meters. It allows to obtain the necessary length and avoids joints.
Ways to cut the casing at 45 degrees without resorting to the use of a jigsaw
The simplest way is to use an ordinary protractor, which is available in every home where a school-age child lives. It is not so difficult to make a marking with it.
Important: the kerf itself is also important. To avoid the formation of gaps, it is recommended to use a hacksaw not for wood, but for metal. Yes, this method is more time consuming, but the kerf will be much more accurate and level.
When the marking using a protractor is made, you need to position the platband on a horizontal surface so that the front side was at the top. It is recommended to make a cut on the whole plane of the casing.
If there are no office equipment nearby, you can use an ordinary tile, with which you can draw a 90-degree angle. By dividing it into 2 halves we receive a template for a 45-degree angle, which can be used for marking instead of the ruler.
If there is a ruler. the task is simplified several times at once. You just need to take a sheet of A4 and draw a square, and then draw the bisectors of the corners. For more convenience, you can take a small plank of wood and apply it to one of the corners, and that will fix the design. Well then you need to attach the platband and start sawing.
Characteristics of plastic corners
Plastic corners are a construction that is flexible, durable and elastic material. Products are made of synthetic polymers that give the corners a rigid structure.
All these qualities allow you to work with the material without fear of damaging it, which ensures quality repairs. But that’s not the only reason why skirting boards are so popular.
For fixing them does not require special equipment, any sharp object (knife or hacksaw) will be enough.
- Ecological composition;
- Long life;
- External coating;
- Does not depend on temperature changes;
- Does not require special maintenance.
- When installing door and window recesses;
- For finishing arches;
- For closing internal and external corners;
- To save the corners of walls lined with wallpaper.
Types of corners in the premises
When installing the skirting boards, it is necessary to somehow decorate the corners. By their appearance corners can be external (which protrude forward) and internal (eg, the corners of the room). In a room with normal geometry, the angles are straight, i.e.е. 90°. When joining two pieces of skirting board in a corner, they are cut so that each has a 45° angle.
To formalize the outer and inner corner, the plinth must be cut
But how to make the angle on the baseboard, so that it is exactly forty-five degrees? To do this, use a special carpentry tool. a plier.
A carpenter’s chisel is a device for cutting at a certain angle. It is used with a hacksaw. In principle, you can make the jigsaw yourself by assembling a guide out of boards and making cuts in the walls. There are different models on sale that cost from 15 to several hundred dollars. They differ in capabilities, materials, although they are all called “jigsaw”. Professional models are made on the basis of a good hacksaw, have a scale that allows you to align the saw as necessary. With this tool, it is not a problem to set any desired cutting angle to cut the baseboard correctly for a perfect junction.
Begin installing baseboards in one of the corners. If this is your first experience, choose a part of the room where something will stand. Not always, of course, the first pancake, but still better to insure. To make the corner on the baseboard neatly, work without haste. Saw one off, check it, fit it. Move on to the next. Fix it better after the two adjacent corners are assembled. But do not put off assembly too much either.
Trimming the baseboard in the corners requires some skill. But having made a few joints yourself, you can beautifully design complex corners
How to use the plinthole to cut the skirting boards? Position the device in front of you, preferably on a table, but you can also on the floor. What side to turn it does not matter, it is symmetrical. Insert the bar in the profile, turn it the way it will stand up against the wall. When sawing a skirting board in a jig, the wall is the wall that is farthest away from you. Once again: press the skirting board firmly against the back wall in the position in which it will be installed. Insert the hacksaw into the appropriate slots. You can start sawing.
The first joint in the room
The first skirting board should be cut as close to the edge as possible. Carpenters have their own lingo and they say “cut” a corner. It doesn’t matter what they call it. What is important is that you set the bar in the jigsaw so that you make the cut at the beginning. Using the cutting trimmer fishing line, push the skirting board out a short distance, 1-2 cm to start with. It’s harder to cut a smaller piece, so save it for later when you have some skill.
Place the skirting board on the far wall, “facing in” towards yourself. This way it is easier to check if you cut/saw correctly
Further to do a corner on a skirting board is necessary so:
- Insert the baseboard into the wood joist, press it against the opposite wall from us. Expose it in the mounting position. how it will stand against the wall.
- We insert the hacksaw into the necessary slots (see picture below).
- We move the bar so that it is a little beyond the line for the trimmer of the cut.
- We cut off.
- We take the second piece of baseboard, repeat the same operations, but the position of the saw on the jigsaw is reversed. We insert the strip from the other side. Here be careful, otherwise you’ll have to redo several times, as the connection will not work.
How to properly cut a skirting board in the jigsaw: for external and internal joints
We’ve got two pieces sawed to join in the inner corner. To make a perfect joint, try on parts in place. Most likely there are some mistakes. Take sandpaper of medium grit, remove everything that hinders jointing. Then using fine grit we achieve a dense connection without gaps and clearances.
When joining the skirting boards in the corner, use a clear silicone sealant. Apply a layer of silicone to the cut before installing the fastener. Immediately after the skirting board is fixed, we remove the excess that appeared outside. Clean up to a perfectly clean surface. This way of connecting the baseboards in the corners looks more neat, no dirt and dust gets clogged in it.
How to file the corner of the baseboard at the right distance
The second and all other corners of the skirting boards must be done at a certain distance. If the next corner is again internal and the distance to it is less than the length of the strip, we use the same fragment, which already has a notch. We measure the distance with a tape measure. strictly from corner to corner. Then this distance is postponed on a plinth by means of a tape measure. We combine the beginning of a tape measure with a ledge, measure the demanded distance, we do a mark with a pencil. It will be the starting point for the cut.
It is necessary to know, on what distance to cut
The plinth with a mark is put in a chair, choose the necessary direction of a cut. The line can be aligned with the hacksaw blade or with the slot in the jigsaw. Who is comfortable? Cut. This is the section that must be “tried on” in place. If both corners are against opposite walls or the gap is only 1 mm, everything is fine. You can cut a second slat from the new piece to make the joint. Again, we clean the imperfections with sandpaper.
If the length of the wall is longer than the length of the baseboard plank, take a new plank. The second corner will be cut on it. It’s important not to make a mistake which way to cut. Placing both slats along the wall, on one of them to mark the place of connection, make a straight cut. For a straight cut there are also slots in the joiner. So there will be no problems.
How to cut the profile for drywall at home
When installing frameworks for walls, ceilings or partitions, it is necessary to cut the profile for gypsum plasterboard. Masters use manual and electric tools. Let’s find out what is better to cut.
Using tools, you can quickly and evenly cut the profile of the desired size
Types of tools
An affordable way to cut, which is used by most, metal scissors. In addition to them use:
- Hacksaw with fine teeth on metal;
- Guillotine machine, a device for cutting profiles for drywall;
- Electric jigsaw with a special saw;
- An angle grinder with a cutting disk;
- circular saw of small size.
On large objects, where you have to cut aluminum in large volumes, use stationary machines of various types with saws, milling machines.
The advantage of the tool is that it is a simple and effective method of cutting. You can buy a household variant or professional.
Scissors cut slats both in size and at an angle of 45 degrees, make a radius or straight cut
What you need to consider when choosing a tool:
- Cutting direction, are divided into right and left. They differ in the position of the lower blade. If the blade is on the left side, the hacksaw is designed for right-handed people. Accordingly, the right hand is more convenient for left-handed people. A straight working blade, without obvious deflection, designed for linear, horizontal cutting.
- The packaging indicates the maximum thickness of metal they can cut. For cutting gypsum board is suitable for thin sheet steel, up to 0.8 mm.
- It is better to choose secateurs made of chrome vanadium, chrome-nickel alloys, high-carbon steel. They will last a long time.
- Choose a comfortable handle. Rubberized, non-slip coating and a stopper to prevent the hand from slipping.
Professionals name good tools from such companies as Kraftool, Bahco, Kontors, Zubr.
Other mechanical tools
Metal saws are not used for constant work. When cutting the material must be fixed in a vise.
The guillotine machine is a professional tool. The profiles are cut quickly and the cut is precise. The tool is simple and effective.
This is what a cutter for precise and fast cutting of profiles looks like
- long lever handle (up to 80 cm), which is removable;
- Blades of high-alloy steel;
- When the guillotine is lowered, the blade enters the cutting mechanism;
- The metal bar is inserted into an adjustable retainer;
- The mechanism is mounted on a metal base.
the machine cuts well the guides and ceiling profiles, but is designed only for straight cuts. Metal strip cannot be cut at an angle.
