Chain saw oil. How to mix gasoline and chain saw oil?

A modern chainsaw consists of many moving mechanisms, which are in constant friction during their direct operation. This results in increased wear on the components and rapid chain tool failure. To prevent this from happening and to noticeably extend the service life of your chain saw, you should use lubricants. The factory engine and cutter bar use different oils, differing in composition, viscosity and storage time. In order to avoid mistakes when choosing lubricants, the novice gardener should carefully study the properties of oils and the peculiarities of their application in the design of the chainsaw used in the economy.

The principle of stable operation of any internal combustion engine is based on its fuel consumption. In the case of gasoline-powered saws, it is the factory brand AI-92 gasoline. It is used for all power units whose operating scheme initially consists of 2 consecutive strokes.

dilute, gasoline, chainsaw

Some chainsaws, mostly Soviet-made, are designed to consume AI-76 and AI-80 gasoline. This is due to the fact that in the days of these garden tools in the gas stations you could only find this fuel. Over time, gasoline AI-76 and AI-80 was squeezed by higher-quality fuel AI-92.

These days it is almost impossible to find fuel that is obsolete in its characteristics and composition. Nevertheless Soviet chain saws still run stubbornly on 92 gasoline, showing no less efficiency and productivity in processing any kind of wood.

It is recommended to buy unleaded gasoline to run garden equipment. Otherwise there is a risk of engine failure. Manufacturers advise fuel with an octane number not lower than AI-90, better AI-92 or AI-95. Consult the instruction manual for specific recommendations for your tool. Fill the canister with the correct amount of fuel at the gas station. It is desirable to take a metal: in such a container does not arise static electricity from friction, which increases the safety of use.

Always buy brand-name two-stroke engine oils, preferably API-TB or API-TC. The manufacturer should specify the recommended brands in the instruction to the tool. Also note their composition. Mineral oils are suitable for use in warm weather. Synthetic is better, they are less viscous and can be used even in freezing temperatures. Semi-synthetic are mineral with improved qualities, universal for any season. See the temperature rating on the packaging. Also pay attention to the volume. It is not the proportion of gasoline and oil for a chainsaw that is important, but how much fuel mixture you will need for one filling and how often you will work with the tool. If you have a grass trimmer or chain saw in your arsenal, and you use one or the other tool several times a week, it makes sense to buy a large 3 to 5 liter canister of oil. For several mowing operations in a garden season it is enough to take a 1 liter bottle.

Mixing oil with gasoline

When you start working with a tool, there is always the question of how much oil to add to gasoline for a chainsaw or grass trimmer. It is important to remember that for two-stroke engines the ratio is 1:50, t.е. 100 ml of oil for every 5 litres of fuel. Why it’s important to respect the proportions? The fluid in the passenger compartment is called the lighter fluid in the passenger compartment, and the lighter fluid in the passenger compartment is called the lighter fluid in the passenger compartment.

The easiest way to determine petrol and oil proportions for a chainsaw is to use measuring jugs. They have a scale with markings on them, which is easy to follow. Make sure the container is clean before pouring in the gasoline and oil. Avoid getting water and dirt in. this can affect the quality of the fuel mixture. First fill petrol to the proper level, then add oil to the proper level. Tilt the container several times to mix the two together. The fluids will mix quickly and the composition will take on a uniform color, such as green or red (depending on the composition of the oil).

It is important to know! In no case do not use plastic bottles from drinks for storage and mix fuel mix. Gasoline corrodes plastics. And even if the walls of the bottle look intact, harmful components will get into the fuel mixture and with it into the engine. It is very bad for the carburetor.

It is recommended that you wear gloves to protect your hands from petrol and oil. Also remember the basic rules of fire safety. Mix fuel outdoors so gasoline fumes do not accumulate indoors. Do not smoke while working and avoid other factors that can cause ignition of fuel and lubricants.

Pour the fuel mixture you have prepared into the tank and close the cap tightly. If you have blended more than you can use at one time, empty it into a separate canister for storage or leave it in the blending tank. Most importantly. make sure the cap is tightly closed. The ready-to-use mixture can be stored for up to two weeks and can be used for refueling without risk to the engine. The only condition is not to leave it in the fuel tank. If you won’t be using the tool for a while, use up the leftovers completely or drain it.

Now you know how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw so as not to harm the engine. Try to do it yourself. After you prepare the fuel mixture several times, it will be clear what amount of components will be needed, so that there is no excess mixture. You can buy everything you need in our online store. With genuine oils your tool will last a long time.

Friendship starts to work fine(part 2)! We put a little too much oil in the gasoline.

Hi all.advise if you can pour a chain saw for chain lubrication thick oil like tad 17

dilute, gasoline, chainsaw

CAMRAN (Earnest) No, you can’t. It’s too bad

Spil (Tamikka) It’s better to use heather. It’s cheap.

Vladimir (Aata) in summer you can, but do not ley exhaust, only clean

Sergey (Madalynn) Dilute with diesel and pour

If you use an oil that is suitable for your bike, it is important to remember that the ratio is 1:50. dmitri (Augustino) it is not only possible but necessary, liquid oil is worse for chain lubrication and the oil sold as chain lubricant is closer to driveline oil than to engine oil.

Sergey (Madalynn) But with thick, you will change the pump and the sprocket

Dmitriy (Augustino) will not do anything with grease more often because it flies forward and the bottom is not properly lubricated.

Sergey (Madalynn) Everyone is entitled to his opinion

Dmitry (Augustino) what is the opinion here is the manufacturer’s recommendation and simple physics.

Sergey (Madalynn) studied physics and saw the original chain oil.

Bukreyev (Torrey). it all depends on the season, in.You also have to add kerosene to thin oil. In winter, I pour the synthetic leftover from changing the oil in the car. I just check the feed on a fresh saw.

How do you dilute gasoline for your chain saw?

Dacha season is about to begin. Prepare the equipment for the season.

A properly mixed mixture, ensures smooth engine operation, complete fuel combustion without formation of soot, smoke or scuffing.

You must use 92 grade gasoline and two-stroke oil (synthetic) for the mixture.

Fuels below 92, with lower octane number is not suitable. We do not recommend the 95th oil.к. it has many different additives, which can adversely affect the operation of gasoline equipment.

Mix the mixture before each use. Do not use too much of it.

The oil-fuel mixture should not be stored for more than 2 weeks, then irreversible processes of oxidation and changes in the mixture composition occur.

i.e. per 1 liter of petrol. 20 milliliters of oil.

(or this proportion 100 ml of oil per 5 liters of petrol).

A full tank at full load lasts 30 to 45 minutes, if you do not plan to use the machine that long, do not fill a full tank.

Do not use old gasoline, it wears out over time and changes the octane rating.

Never fill 2-stroke power tools with refined gasoline. you could end up with serious and costly repairs.

It is only possible to refuel with a petrol-oil mix.

Why the wrong mixture can wreck your machine?

The point is that, unlike 4-stroke engines, 2-stroke engines do not have an external lubrication system for the internal parts of the engine, a properly prepared fuel mixture is very important for them. If you add too little oil, the lubricating properties of the mixture will decrease, it will lead to fast wear and tear of the equipment. Conversely, if you add too much oil. it ruins the combustion properties of the mixture and greatly reduces the power of the machine.

A two-stroke engine does not have a separate oil sump, and all friction parts inside the engine are lubricated by the oil.which is in the fuel mix.

The oil needs to lubricate all the friction surfaces inside the engine and burn without fouling. This is the fundamental difference between oils for 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines.

Correct Way To Mix Gas and Oil For a ChainSaw, WeedEater etc.

In addition to the above functions oil should:

  • tighten the gaps, especially between the parts of the cylinder-piston group, prevent and minimize the outflow of gases from the combustion chamber.
  • dissipate heat resulting from the combustion and friction.
  • prevent corrosion of engine parts.

The engine oil level should be between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius, but not between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius! Pour the gasoline into a clean and dry canister and add oil.

In reverse order you do not need to t.к. the oil poured in first will stick to the bottom and is then difficult to mix, more effort will have to be put in. After adding both ingredients, close the container tightly and shake it thoroughly, actively mixing the components.

How to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw?

Before pouring fuel into the tank, the gasoline mixture must be prepared. The ratio of oil and gasoline for a chainsaw is regulated in strict proportions. as a rule, they are specified in the instruction manual. If you don’t know how much oil to put in your home-built chainsaw, we recommend using a ratio of 1:15 to 1:20. Т.е., use 50-70 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline.

As for imported equipment, the proportions are quite different. For example, how to dilute petrol with oil for a 2 kW Husqvarna chainsaw? For this purpose, we look at the instruction and see that the manufacturer recommends using the proportion 1:50, i.e.е. You should not use more than 20 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. If the passport is missing (lost, torn, etc.) the oil.e), use the internet or go to a service center. that way you’ll know exactly how much oil to put in your gasoline for your chainsaw. The increased amount of oil threatens with increased fouling and clogging of the cylinder, which will lead to burst piston rings and decreased compression, moreover, it is expensive. If the amount of chainsaw oil in the mixture is low, it will cause the engine to overheat and drastically reduce its service life.

If you don’t know how much oil to put in your Chinese chainsaw, and you don’t have the manual at hand, the proportion is about 1:25, i.e. 40 ml of oil per 1 liter of gasoline. In general, the amount of oil depends on the layout. the tighter all the parts are installed, the less oil is needed.

Before you prepare a gasoline mixture for a chainsaw, you must first pour gasoline into the canister, and only then add oil, not otherwise. Otherwise viscous oil will stick to the walls and the bottom of the jerry can and dissolve, disturbing the correct gasoline/oil ratio for the chainsaw.

Oil for 2-stroke chainsaw engines

Modern petrol saws can be equipped with a 2 or 4-stroke engine. In the latter, the oil originally comes straight from the crankcase to the crankcase.

In contrast, with two-stroke factory engines, the fuel flows into the plane below the piston. To fill these chainsaws with fresh gasoline, you need to add engine oil. It lubricates the rubbing parts of the engine, preventing their premature wear.

Oil for 2-stroke chainsaw engines must necessarily meet a number of important parameters:

  • When oil burns, there should be minimum ash buildup. It is best that the oil used is fully combustible;
  • The lubricant must dissolve quickly in petrol;
  • Oil for 2-stroke engines must be free of harmful impurities that can lead to clogging of carburetor lines.

The choice of oils for 2-stroke engines depends largely on the types of cooling systems. 2T formulations are ideal for lubricating engines with air-cooling systems. For engines with liquid-cooled systems, select oils marked TC-W3.

In any case, the oil for the permanent lubrication of the engine of the tool used must be of the highest quality. Poor-quality oils during combustion produce a large amount of sludge, which is deposited on the cylinder walls and under the ICE piston rings. Because of this the original rings lose the ability to compress, resulting in burrs on the inner walls of the engine cylinder. Besides, bad lubrication leads to overheating of crank mechanism parts. As a result, they jam and completely fail.

How to prepare the fuel mix: oil and petrol proportions for a chainsaw

A chainsaw engine is the “heart” of the tool, that is why it is very important to use a properly blended fuel mixture.

Chain saw fuel mixtures are made of two components. oil and gasoline. Chainsaws are equipped with two-stroke engines, so oil is not added to the lubrication system (as in a four-stroke engine), but directly to the gasoline. It is very important to observe the correct proportions of ingredients and, of course, in no case try to work on pure gasoline, because that way, you will very quickly “kill” the chain saw.

The oil must be intended for two-stroke engines of gardening and forestry equipment (i.e. in no case can you use oil for boat motors or scooters). As practice shows such oil can be bought in any store or service center, where chain saws are sold or serviced.

If we talk about what gasoline fill in the chain saw, it is optimal to use the fuel with the octane number of A-95, in this case, the savings on fuel can turn out badly. European manufacturers often indicate that you can use gasoline A-90 or A-92, but in post-Soviet countries, the quality of gasoline inferior to the European, so in our reality it is better to use a higher-quality gasoline.

As for the petrol-oil mixture proportion itself, everything is simple: it is necessary to follow the instructions of the tool clearly. All chainsaw manufacturers indicate the required ratio in the instruction manual or in the tool’s certificate, besides, the proportions for filling the chainsaw may differ depending on the model of the chainsaw. As a rule, the ratio of oil to gasoline in a chain saw from reputable manufacturers is 1:40 or 1:50, which means 1 part oil to, say, 40 parts gasoline.

Now the arithmetic: 1 liter of petrol = 1000 ml of petrol, divide by 40 and you get 25 ml of oil. If you do the same for 1:50, you get 20 ml of oil for 1 liter of gasoline.

As for budget Chinese-made chainsaws, the situation is slightly different. Gasoline to oil ratio for chainsaws made in China 1:25, so 1000 ml of petrol divided by 25, you get 40 ml of oil. The thing is that branded chainsaws have good assembly and the distance between the pistons and cylinders in the engine is much smaller than in the Chinese chainsaws, so the required amount of oil is almost twice as different.

To measure the right amount of oil, use an ordinary medical syringe of sufficient volume.

One more thing to be aware of. pour the gasoline into the dry gasoline canister first, and then the oil. The procedure on the contrary is fraught with low-quality fuel mixture, because the oil is more dense, will stick to the bottom of the canister. That is why there is no way to talk about good mixing.

Always prepare fuel mixture in the canister and fill the tank with ready fuel! Never prepare and mix it directly in the fuel tank of your chainsaw!

If the question of how to dilute gasoline for a chainsaw is solved, then and about the storage conditions and shelf life of the fuel mixture it is worth to say a few words. It is best and easiest to prepare gasoline-oil mixture for 1 liter of gasoline, it is recommended to do it immediately before working with the tool. The fuel tanks of chainsaws have a capacity of 0.3 to 1 liter. In a residential scenario, it is rare that the entire volume of fuel mixture prepared will be used in one go, so the remainder can be stored until the next go-around. It is necessary to store the fuel mixture in a special canister for gasoline, in a dry, dark place. It is a good rule of thumb to calculate that The storage time of the ready mix is 7-10 days

The fact that the oil currently on the market is not synthetic, but organic, that is, natural. After 10 days all lubricating properties are lost, gasoline simply “eats up” the oil. Naturally, you can not use such fuel anymore, it can cause a breakdown and failure of the chainsaw.

At the end of the work it is necessary to drain the fuel mixture and start the chainsaw. the tool will stall (so that the saw has a dry carburetor) and now you can leave it until the next session of operation.

Peculiarities of the running-in of a new tool

This includes sparing the chainsaw during the initial stage of its operation. The technology also involves running the engine on a mixture with 20% more engine oil.

See enclosed instruction manual for running-in hours. In practice, it is enough to fill 3-5 times the gas tank of the saw to reach the operating level.

New models do not need to run-in, but it is not recommended to use the chainsaw with heavy loads for the first few hours of operation.
